Needless to say, this activity is not something very conducive for us introverts. Teamwork is great, but if constantly forced upon people who identify themselves as (or who even have no idea that they are) introverts, teamwork can defeat its own purposes: creativity and productivity.

There are more than 100,000 janitors in the U.S. with college degrees and 16,000 parking lot attendants.

The idea of volunteering or buying a ticket and watching the speakers is to find out how to be a mover and a changer. You get excitement out of hearing the speakers. In the past, tickets usually sell out before the speakers are announced. The goal is to celebrate the community. According to the Sacramento Bee article, TEDx Sacramento assigns volunteers to help speakers with their delivery to make sure there's enthusiasm in the presentation.

Needless to say, I'm not surprised 85% of executives don't want to start arguments they feel they will lose. That meeting, in vulgar terms, sucked. The executive made it clear he'd been counting on renting the property, but my problem, from an epidemiological point of view, is that his behaviour in that regard did not stack up: the pattern of his actions didn't fit the pattern of his words. For example, he apologized for the three hour delay, but then admitted it was because he and his girlfriend had had a leisurely breakfast together. This after I'd battled my way through gasket-blowing traffic in Toronto.

Be good at what you do. If you're already good be better. Take a class, earn a certification, or just read a book. Whatever your purpose find yourself the opportunity to serve others something of value. Don't forget to serve yourself in the process. Leaders are constantly seeking wisdom wherever they can find it and relish in the opportunity to share it with others.
