Perhaps you have heard the "horror" stories of people who tried real estate investing, and they had a bad experience with "problem tenants" or "maintenance headaches." They don't hesitate to tell you all the reasons why real estate doesn't work. All this extra work means that labor costs rise because more people are being paid to do the work. These increased labor costs are passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices. And higher prices, as we've said, are the definition of inflation.
Now that I have covered how home values are determined, I want to explain why Asheville seems to be immune from dropping home values, even when the rest of the country seemed destined to drop. The answer is quite simple. People want to live here, so they are willing to pay fair market value.
