Many families would do well to consider other types of post-secondary education for their kids. Perhaps learning a marketable trade is the way to go. There will always be a need for auto mechanics, electricians, carpenters, beauticians, make-up artists, and workers with other hands-on skills. These jobs will not disappear and cannot be shipped overseas. Or, one might consider investing in a small business or franchise. Become an entrepreneur. Pursue your culinary skills. Follow your artistic dreams. Or, attend college not as a four year vacation with beer parties, drug parties, hooking up and easy courses as the main attraction. But pursue your degree with the primary goal of learning marketable skills.

Here's an amazing story about a medical doctor, Dr Terry Wahls, who was diagnosed with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis in 2003. Soon after, she needed a wheelchair to get around and was only able to walk short distances with two canes. After 7 years of the best medical care and the latest drugs her condition progressively worsened to the point she couldn't sit upright. She had to be reclined in a zero-gravity chair.

I don't believe you need to be an extrovert to be a good presenter. Steve Jobs is regarded as one of world's best business presenters without being a hyper-energetic speaker. However, regardless of your starting point, you do need variety in your presentation.



But business talk after a few glasses of wine (free wine) becomes old hat. As the roughly three hour event wound down and the snacks began to dwindle, the group began to disperse as well. One 18 minute speech could change a view, direction, or plant an idea. Therefore, TED would be meeting its goal of spreading ideas that are worth being given consideration.

In fact, people who are good at being vulnerable and taking risks are more likely to feel guilt and take responsibility for their actions, without turning this pain inward and feeling shame instead. Brown talks about how shame is counterproductive, but taking risks and taking responsibility for your actions are both highly productive. How does this apply to drug testing?

The example that Heffernan used was this: Dr. Stewart found a correlation between childhood cancers and prenatal x-rays. She worked with Kneale to verify her facts. What's interesting is that Stewart thought she needed to hurry her research so her theory could be proven. Why hurry? She obviously thought her information - that x-rays were risky for pregnant women -- would be acted upon swiftly, before she could collect the necessary data.

12. Rejoice in the day. This is the day that the Lord has made. Be grateful for the good and bad. It's all good because God made it. And He will use both the good and bad things to bring about good results in your life. He will develop you spiritually. He will bring you into closer relationship with Him. He will show you His grace. He will teach you an important life lesson in all your trials and triumphs.
